Overview House Malcom is one of the primary money makers on Foriedy and exports some of the most expensive goods that leave the Island. Their trade: Ironweb Spider silk. The silk is collected from their ‘farms’ on the nearby island of Lazorta and is used to make armor and clothing that is sold worldwide. The steep costs for creating the end product means that nobles from various nations are their target audience, but when they claim that their goods are lighter than steel and twice as strong it can open many pocketbooks. Adventurers are especially willing to fork over large sums for the specialized armor which can take years to make, but is worth every coin spent.

The Trade House employs many people on the Island, but not all are paid. Their primary workforce is comprised from debt servitude or from those who were assigned farm work as punishment for their crimes. Slave labor is not uncommon either. The harvesters who do receive coin are often there voluntarily, trying to earn coin for their families, or just happy to be off the streets. The base labor doesn’t pay well, but some workers may earn themselves greater status which can earn them membership into the Trade House and significantly more money.

Milking the spiders for silk may be dangerous, but losing the spiders would be even more detrimental both to the House and the wellbeing of the Island. To that end House Malcom hires out sellswords. Some come from the Watch looking for higher pay or a sense of adventure. House Malcom swords do not protect the workers. They protect the ‘cash-cow’. Any threat to the spiders from outside sources or even within is dealt with swiftly and with little mercy. It has earned the house a bad reputation with some but few are willing to say anything to put an end to it, especially when it is time to fill the Ransom Ships.
