The Abyss is a plane-scape of primordial chaos, ever changing, destroying itself and being remade continually. Saratta was born from primordial materials drawn out of it, awakening its keeper, the god Balphurus. When the god learned that Saratta was formed from material stolen from him he vowed to return the world from whence it came.

The Abyss is the foundation of worlds and holds untold power. It is the home of demons who are in an ever present battle to prove themselves to Balphurus and to gain dominance over its realms. Demons follow a specific hierarchy within the Abyss based upon their level of power and place beside the god of Chaos. At the top are the Demon Lieutenants, followed by Demon Princes and Realm Princes. All other demons seek to attain these positions and employ every level of defilement and corruption necessary to reach them.

Not all demons embrace the madness of the Abyss. These more lawful creatures seek the ordered pocket realms known as the Burning Eternities or Hell. These demons are known as Devils.
